A Feeling in your Heart

It might not feel much like Christmas outside, I think the high here today was around 78. I am sitting in the recliner with the lights off all except the tree, listening to the Patty Loveless Holiday station on Pandora, thinking of turning  the air on to put a little chill in the air, but then Christmas is not a feeling outside, it is a feeling in your heart. I really enjoy this station because it plays mostly Christmas hymns. I am not sure of my favorite carol/hymn I love them all & it is usually the second or third verse that means the most to me. Take Silent Night for example and see which verse or verses speak to you?

Silent night, holy night.
All is calm, All is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so Tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night.
Shepherds quake at the sight.
Glories stream from heaven afar;
Heavenly hosts sing Al-le-lu-ja.
Christ the Savior is born.
Christ the Savior is born.

Silent night, Holy night.
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face,
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus Lord at thy birth;
Jesus Lord at thy birth

Can you imagine what it must have felt like to be a shepard in the field on that first Christmas night?!

I think that Silent Night holds one strong Christmas memory. Growing up we always went to church on Christmas Eve and the late service (11pm) was always my favorite because it was a candle light service. At one point in the service all the lights in the church would be turned off and everyone got their very own candle and we all sang Silent Night. I can not wait until Annabelle is old enough to share this tradition with and hope that it touches her in the same way it has touched me.

Do you have a favorite Christmas song?

When they were little my brothers favorites were The Little Drummer Boy & Go Tell it on the Mountain. I am not sure if Annabelle had a favorite yet but I know she likes Deck the Halls because she has figured out how to sing the fa la la la la part.

I heard this one tonight for the first time and I really, really like it. So I am sharing with you.

We are counting down the days until Christmas, and are excited that this year the only travel day we will have is tomorrow. We will travel to the lake and back. We will be home for the first time ever on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day. What a wonderful gift not to have to go from here to there and back home and to be able to enjoy the day with my little family. On Christmas Day we have invited my parents & Tommy’s parents to come have lunch with us. We are cooking a low country boil. I know it is not very traditional, but Christmas is the time for new traditions and low country boil sounds like a good Christmas meal if you live in the low country, right?! I really don’t care what you think (ha ha) we are all excited about it and that’s what matters most 🙂

We have a favorite Christmas book, it is a big girl book that I am proud to say that Annabelle will sit, look and listen to the whole thing. I bought this book when she was just a peanut in my belly. This year we have bought a copy to share with her cousins P & E. Shhh, don’t tell them, it’s a surprise.

I hope that P & E will enjoy this book as much as we do. I am excited to give it to them tomorrow.

Here are a few pictures from this week that I wanted to share.

I made these cute snowman cookies to take to the lake tomorrow. This picture is one before they are finished. I have not taken a finished picture, but they are so very cute! Snow is one of Annabelle’s new favorite words and it is super cute when she says it.

I decided on a very cheap way to hang my Christmas cards and love it. Twine and my coat rack!

What I spent half my day doing…clean up and out Annabelle’s room. How can one little girl make such a BIG mess?!

Oh, I do not think I have introduced you to our elf friend Elroy. He watches and reports back to Santa each night…I hope we have all been good.

This picture was taken last weekend with my dad…yes he really looks like Santa!

Try to keep that Christmas feeling in your heart all year long!

Disney’s Very Merry Christmas Party!

Tommy is very good at suprises. They usually come in the form of a day trip or getaway. He knows just what his little girl loves, anything Disney! Annabelle loves Mickey, Minnie, and all of the clubhouse characters & more. She carries her Mickey & Minnie around with her all day & could watch her Mickey Mouse Clubhouse DVD’s over & over again. At the moment her favorite episode is one where Goofy is sick & Minnie takes him some Minnie-stronie soup. In the episode Goofy sneezes a lot. Tommy had a few vacation days left & decided that he was going to take us to Disney’s Very Merry Christmas Party. This ticket is different than your regular park ticket, & the party starts once the park closes. The party starts at 7pm and goes on thru midnight. With your party addmission you can get in the park at 4pm. We went in rode a few rides, ate dinner & got ready to party Disney style. The best part was when Annabelle saw Goofy on stage & started sneezing like he does in her favorite episode. It snowed all evening on Main Street, there was free hot chocolate & sugar cookies (even though the weather was not hot chocolate kind of weather) there were parades, meet & greets, rides, fireworks etc. It was a wonderful experience! Our favorite part was the light show on the castle. If you ever get the chance to go to A Very Merry Christmas Party…GO!

We took very little into the park. At times we wish we would have taken our nice camera, but sometimes with it we spend too much time taking pictures and not making memories. So all these pictures were taken with my cell phone.

We have also had a busy week of Christmas parties, baking Christmas goodies & making salt dough ornaments. Hoping to do a few more crafty things before Christmas is upon us.

Never forget the reason for the season!

So Random!

Well, I was on a roll there for a while, blogging almost everyday. Then life got busy again. We had a very Happy Thanksgiving, we went to a family reunion (my hubby’s side) we picked out a Christmas tree, have decorated our house, tried numerous times to take a Christmas card picture, Tommy celebrate his birthday,we finished our Christmas shopping & lots more.

Annabelle & I made these cute little cornucopia’s out of ice cream cones and filled them with m&m’s (2 of Annabelle’s favorite sweets) We gave them to the people we love on Thanksgiving and attached a turkey hand print card.

This year we have 5 Christmas trees. Ranging in sizes. From 2 feet to about 11 feet. We have a UGA themed tree in a guest bedroom, a silver tree in Annabelle’s room with hot pink, lime green & electric blue ornaments, a small tree in our kitchen with kitchen utensils & cookie cutter ornaments, in our bedroom a snowflake themed tree & the biggest tree (a Frasier fir) in our living room this year with only the unbreakable ornaments. I just love the smell of a real tree, don’t you?! (I will post pictures of our decorations later)

I have tried for at least a week to get the right picture for my Christmas cards & Annabelle jus wants to play, sing & move too fast to get the right picture. I wish we could have gotten a family picture but we don’t have any recent ones where we are all looking at the camera that I thought would look right in a card.  I inserted a picture last night, sent my cards to production and this morning Annabelle was ready to cooperate. She went & put shoes on, picked a Christmas dress out of her closet, pulled her rocking chair by the tree, pointed at my camera and started posing…what a turkey. Gotta love her! Here are a few of the pictures we did not choose.

Tommy’s mom and dad came to have lunch with us last Saturday to celebrate his 34th birthday. We had bbq chicken, roasted potatoes, green beans and butterfinger ice cream pie! We all enjoyed the day. It was nice to have them come spend time with us. Even though it is already December, I am using the Butterfinger Ice cream Pie as my November recipe. I tried a few new things in November, 2 family recipes that I am not sure I am at liberty to share and a few that were just ok. I did cross one thing off my 30’s list. I made my MawMaw’s 6 flavor cake. It would be a lie to tell you that it came out perfect the 1st time, it did not. It was not perfect the 2nd time either, but both times it did taste good. I will try this again. I will master this cake, I am determined!

We have a very busy month ahead of us, I can not wait to share it with you!
